Bangladesh have stormed into the semi-finals of Bangabandhu Gold Cup defeating Sri Lanka 1-0 on Monday evening at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in the capital city.The team in red and green, who tested Sri Lanka defence for several times, found the match-winning goal at 40th minute and hero of the match is Hemanta Vincent.After losing several chances for the lack of finishers, Hemanta put the host ahead just before the end of first half. He found the ball just outside the D-box after touches from Zahid Hossain and Emily.The right-footed forward curled the ball outside the box and reached the net of Sri Lanka beating the goalie.The score-line remained same until the end of the crucial match.Hosts Bangladesh needed only a draw to reach the last four of the FIFA and AFC approved international soccer meet of Bangladesh while Sri Lanka had to win the match to assure the semifinal berth.Bangladesh earlier lost to Malaysia Under-23 team 0-1 while Sri Lanka lost 0-2 against Malaysia, leaving Bangladesh in an advantageous position to reach the semifinal with a draw.
