2 of Sylhet burn victims die at DMCH

57A woman and her daughter who along another member of the family sustained burn injuries in a fire that broke out at their house in the city on Friday night died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in the capital on Saturday evening.
The deceased were identified as Monwara Begum, 45, wife of late Jakir Hossain, their daughter Jahida Akter, 20.
Monwara and Jahida, who were undergoing treatment with 60 percent burns, succumbed to their injuries at the DMCH burn unit in the evening, said Kabir Jafir Setu, a relative of the family and also a teacher of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology.
Jabed Hossain Tarek, station officer of Sylhet Fire Service, said the fire suddenly broke out at the toilet of the house around 11:30 pm when Monwara entered it with candle as there was no electricity at that time, leaving three house inmates, including Monwara’s son Jahir Hossain, injured with burns.
Toxic gas from septic tank caused the fire, he said.
The injured were first rushed to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital from where Monwara and Jahida were shifted to the DMCH.
