Eyes: We use them to see the beauty in everything. Shakespeare even said they are the windows to our souls.
They are the first things we look at on another person. They can tell us when someone is lying or telling the truth, and they can even tell us when someone is in love.
And apparently, our peepers can tell us a lot more about ourselves and others than we once thought.
Eyes can give us clues about how much liquor we can handle, how strong a person is and what someone’s personality may be like before even speaking to him or her.
People With Dark Eyes Get Drunker Faster
ScienceDirect reports in a study connecting eye color and alcohol abuse that people with darker eyes were unable to consume as much liquor as participants with lighter colored eyes.
The study also indicates that people with lighter eyes are more likely to abuse alcohol and consume large quantities in one serving.
Maybe that explains why you were ordering an Uber for your brown-eyed friend this weekend after she left her phone at the bar.
Why can’t some people keep up? Guess it’s because their eyes are as dark as that cheap whiskey.
People With Dark Eyes Can Be Trusted… Maybe
A study published in PLoS One found that people will more often choose faces with dark eyes when asked who they would trust in a group of pictures.
People with blue eyes tended to appear the least trustworthy. Side note: They were also chosen the sexiest. Does that mean we’re picking the least trustworthy people we can find to take home every weekend?
If so, you may want to reconsider bringing home the one with the cold, blue eyes.
Dark Eyes Mean More Power And Dominance
Psychology Today says that people tend to find men and women with dark eyes seem more dominant and powerful than their light-eyed counterparts.
Researchers think this might be because of social surroundings rather than a genetic advantage.
Being that most people are born with blue eyes, PT argues that light-eyed children are given the baby treatment longer than their brothers or sisters with darker eyes.
Guess that means all the siblings who didn’t get the beautiful bright eyes will have the last laugh behind their big desks or in their fancy corporate helicopters.
People With Dark Eyes Are Better At Sports
A study published in the Journal of Perceptual and Motor Skills found that men and women with darker eyes may be better at sports like tennis and racquetball.
The report indicates that people with darker colored eyes have more melanin in their systems, which is an insulator for the electrical connections between brain cells.
Basically, the more melanin in the brain, the more efficiently, sensitively and quickly the brain can work, the researchers reported.
That means, if you’re playing a game that requires quick thinking and some solid hand-eye coordination, your dark-eyed friends may have the upper hand.
People With Light Eyes May Be Sort Of Bitchy
A study conducted in Australia found that people with lighter eyes were found to be “less agreeable” and far more competitive than those with dark eyes.
After examining hundreds of participants, researchers found that people with dark eyes are more likely to be characterized using words like “empathy, friendliness, generosity and compassion.”
Really? So what about the rest of us? Unemotional, heartless, detached, cold, resting bitch face? Seriously, tell me. I want to know.
People With Light Eyes Can Handle More Pain
People with lighter eyes may be tougher than people with darker eyes.
According to CancerCenter, a study focused on pain tolerance showed that women who have light eyes were able to handle to child birth better than those with dark eyes, and they even had less postpartum depression and anxiety.
The study went on to reveal that women who had darker eyes responded to epidurals faster, which may mean they have a higher sensitivity to pain.
It’s pretty cool to think I may be stronger than some of my dark-eyed friends.
But, honestly, I’m not really sure which option I would rather prefer in this situation: being able to handle the pain of giving birth or responding to the meds faster.

Those with blue eyes have a bright and happy nature, are often the most sincere out of the bunch (despite the majority of people thinking they are the least trustworthy) and are highly intellectual.
Just like our fingerprints, no two people have the exact same eye color or iris pattern in the entire world.
Many of these personality traits are assumptions based on studies and data collected through different research; they’re not definitive answers for who we are.
In the end, only one thing is certain. I have green eyes, and those are the most beautiful of them all.
