Army man who allegedly tortured wife after tying her to a tree arrested in Sylhet

40Sylhet police have arrested army member Shafiqul Sheikh who is accused of torturing his wife after trying her to a tree at Narail.
Shah Paran Police Station OC Shakhawat Hossain said Sheikh was arrested at Sylhet cantonment area around 7:30pm on Monday.
He told  that police personnel had started from Sylhet on Monday night to take him to Narail.
The arrest came a day after the High Court gave police 48 hours to nab those involved in the torture.
According to media reports, housewife Bobita Khanom, 21, was tied to a tree and was beaten with sticks by her in-laws on Apr 30.
Her husband Sheikh, brother- and sister-in-laws Hasan Sheikh and Jirin Akhter, father-in-law Salam Sheikh, Salam’s brother Kalam Sheikh, neighbour Nannu Sheikh and Kashipur UP Awami League Joint Convener Rahman Arju reportedly carried out the torture.
Bobita fell unconscious and was then locked up inside a shop at a bazaar.
On being informed, police found her and sent her to the Upazila Health Complex.
Later she was transferred to Narail Sadar Hospital.
The mother of the housewife filed a case with Lohagarha Police Station on May 5 over the incident.
The High Court bench of Justices Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman on Sunday asked police to arrest those involved in the torture in 48 hours.
Earlier, police arrested two people including Sheikh’s uncle Hiru Miah over the incident.
