UK Bengalis have always stood by Bangladesh

Bengali ex patriates have always stood by Bangladesh in crisis said Bangladesh’s Prime Minister who is on short personal trip. She was addressing a gathering on 14 June in a reception organised by the UK Awami League in her honour at Park Lane Hotel in central London. She said the UK Bengalis have always supported Bangladesh from Bangabandhu’s 6 Point demand to sending Sir Williams QC to release Bangabandhu from Agartala case, to create world opinion in favour of Bangladesh’s liberation struggle in 1971, to sending remittances. Reminiscing the past Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina even mentioned of her visit to the UK with Bangabandhu in 1969. She said because of close relationship between Bangladesh and the UK, and especially with British Bengalis everytime she comes to London she feels at home as being amongst her own community.

The meeting was chaired by Awami League President Sultan Shariff and conducted by Secretary Syed Faruk. The meeting was also attended by Sajeeb Wajed Joy, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam and a number of UK MPs that included Prime Minister’s niece Tulip Siddiq MP, Wes Streeting MP, Mike Gapes MP, Jess Philips MP and Paul Skully MP
