Kamrul Islam, a Saudi expatriate, had left Bangladesh after he and several others allegedly had brutally beaten Rajan to death. The Bangladesh embassy, with the help of the local police, took Kamrul Islam into custody on Monday.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque has said Kamrul Islam, one of the alleged murderers of child Samiul Islam Rajan in Sylhet, would be repatriated from Saudi Arabia with the help of the Interpol.

Reporters asked him about Islam’s repatriation on Tuesday while he was inspecting the highways at Gazipur’s Chandra ahead of the Eid.

“He will be repatriated quickly through the Interpol,” he said.

“Kamrul was arrested in Jeddah with the help of our consulate. He was later handed over to the local police,” he said.

Kamrul Islam left the country after Rajan was brutally beaten to death on July 8, allegedly for stealing a rickshaw van at Kumargaon in Sylhet Sadar Upazila.

One of the killers had filmed the atrocity and released the shocking footage on a social networking site.

The 28-minute video clip created a firestorm on the social media.

Bangladesh Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Golam Masih said the home and foreign ministries should move to bring back Islam, who is now in custody at a police centre in Jeddah.

On Monday, a Sylhet court granted police five days to grill Islam’s brother Muhit Alam for his suspected involvement in the murder.

Police on Tuesday night also arrested the third accused in the murder case, guard Moyna Mia, from Tuker Bazar.

In the past two days, they also detained Alam’s wife, brother-in-law, and two others who witnessed the on the boy for questioning.

Alam and another suspect are currently on police remand in the murder case.

But another accused, Haider Ali, is still on the run.

On Tuesday, the IGP said urged people not to take the law into their own hands.

“Inform police when a robber is nabbed. But none should beat him to death,” Hoque said.

The police chief said necessary action would be taken against the members of the force if they were found to have been negligent in preventing mob lynching.
