According to the minister, identity of the user, who has more than one SIM card, will be detected through this system, banglanews reports.
The state minister made this disclosure on Tuesday while talking to the representatives from telephone phone operators and national identity card authorities at her office in secretariat in city.
Presenting the information regarding the number of total subscribers till September 21 across the country, she further said that only 6,179 NID have been used in taking the whole number of SIM cards from six operators.
Moreover, as many as 14,117 SIM cards have been registered against the national identity (NID) card of a person in the country.
A total of 11,728 SIM card have been registered against the NID of another person, the state minister added.
According to her, the telephone operators will start using biometrics system at their service centers from November 1 on test and finally from December 16.
She hoped that the subscribers will ensure the safety and security of their respective SIM cards.
Answering a question, Tarana Halim further warned that anybody under 18 years of age will not be allowed to subscribe SIM cards.
‘If they need a SIM, it could be collected with the total responsibilities of their parents,’ she added.
