Bengali girl elected president of Brasilia student body

Madhuri Quayes, a 12th grade Bengali student at the Brasilia International School (BIS), Brazil was elected President of the BIS Students Council in elections held on 18 Sept. In a closely contested election, which saw extensive campaigning, Madhuri beat her contender, Brazilian Eduarda, by 14 votes.

BIS is part of the Network of International Christian Schools, and a member of the Association of American Schools in Brazil. The school currently has students of 29 nationalities, including Brazilians.

Madhuri, the younger daughter of Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Brazil Mr Mijarul Quayes and Naeema Quayes. Madhuri had enrolled in the 11th grade at BIC last year.
