Cricketer Shahadat sent to jail

25A Dhaka court on Tuesday sent Shahadat Hossain, a suspended national player, to jail rejecting his bail plea in a case filed for torturing his domestic help, says news agency UNB.

Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Kazi Kamrul Hossain passed the order after officer-in-charge of Mirpur Model police station Shafiqur Rahman, also the investigation officer of the case, produced Shahadat before the court after the completion of his three-day remand period.

|Earlier, Adv Kazi Mohammad Nazibullah Hiru filed a bail petition before the court on the behalf of the cricketer.

On 8 October, Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Md Yusuf Hossain placed Shahadat on a three-day remand in the case.
On 4 October, police arrested Nitya Shahadat, wife of Sahadat Hossain, from Pabna Lane at Malibagh in the capital in connection with the case.
Later, a court sent her to jail rejecting her bail petition as well as the remand petition by the police.
On 6 September, Mahfuza Akhter Happy, 11, the domestic help of Shahadat’s residence, was found lying injured on a road in Sangbadik Colony area at Pallabi in Dhaka.
Happy claimed that Shahdat Hossain and his wife tortured her and the couple went into hiding following this.
On 7 September, a journalist named Mojammel Hossain filed a case against Shahadat and her wife Nitto with Mirpur Model Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act-2000.
