‘Motive’ behind BNP’s polls joining unclear: Hanif

42Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif on Wednesday said the ‘motive’ behind BNP’s participation in the municipal polls, slated for December 30, is not clear.
“Hearing BNP leaders’ remarks over municipal polls it seems they’re perhaps conspiring to make the election controversial,” he told a press conference at the Awami League president’s Dhanmondi political office in the city.
About BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s comment that their party joined the election in the interest of democracy, Hanif said nothing can be more ridiculous than this.
“You didn’t take part in the national election which is an important part of establishing democracy and now you (BNP) will save democracy by taking part in local polls,” he added.
The Awami League leader urged the BNP leaders not to hatch conspiracies over the municipal polls for the sake of the country and its people.unb
