speakers of South Asian countries call on JS Speaker

35Speakers of different South Asian countries, who are now in the city to attend the South Asian Speakers’ Summit, made a courtesy call on Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad (JS) and CPA executive committee chairperson Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury at her JS Secretariat office today, reports UNB.

Speaker of Indian Lok Sabha Sumitra Mahajan, Speaker of Afghanistan House of the People (Wolesi Jigra) Abdul Raouf Ibrahimi, Speaker of the Maldives Majlish Abdullah Maseeh Mohamed, Speaker of Bhutan National Assembly (Tshogdu) Jigme Zangpo and Deputy Speaker of Sri Lanka Sumathipala, Udu Watuwage Janath Priya Thilanga met the Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad at her office.

The Speaker welcomed the Speakers of different South Asian countries and exchanged views with them. At that time, the visiting Speakers highly applauded the Jatiya Sangsad constructed with the archaeological design of Luis I Kahn and they also apprised the Speaker of the parliament buildings of their respective countries.

The visiting speakers went round different parts of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban (Building).

The visiting speakers of different countries are now in Dhaka to take part in the two-day South Asian Speakers’ Summit titled “Achieving Sustainable Development Goal” organised by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in joint cooperation with Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad and the Campaign for Tobacco-free Kids.

Secretary of Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat Dr Md Abdur Rab Howladar was present.
