Chinese New Year festivities

7Don’t miss out on the colourful festivities to see in the Year of the Monkey. Chinese New Year is celebrated across the world, with the biggest celebrations outside of Asia taking place in London.
Events to mark the Year of the Monkey include a grand parade in Trafalgar Square on Sunday, February 14 and in Tower Hamlets the council is supporting an event at Rich Mix in Bethnal Green Road on Saturday, February 13.
Organised by the Chinese Association of Tower Hamlets, a charity which has been running for more than 30 years, promise a spectacular show.
The event will include cultural performances, arts and crafts workshops for children, charity stalls and mouth-watering food and drink. The highlight of the show will be a lion dance which will open the event.
The fun starts at 12noon and runs until 4pm.
Mayor of Tower Hamlets, John Biggs said: “Come and support the Chinese Association of Tower Hamlets with this wonderful event.
The charity provides a valuable service in our borough offering a lunch club for older people, welfare and benefit advice and home care provision.”
Cllr Asma Begum, cabinet member for Culture added: “Come celebrate the Year of the Monkey in style, have fun, enjoy yourself and most importantly have a fantastic Chinese New Year!”
