BCB serves petition against ICC decision

Bangladesh Cricket Board has served a petition against the International Cricket Council’s decision of suspending fast bowler Taskin Ahmed. BCB president Nazmul Hasan last Sunday informed the media that they will take action against the ICC decision and said serving an official petition is the first step of the process.

“We have officially served a petition to the ICC regarding its decision against Taskin Ahmed. We have submitted the necessary papers, our observations and have mentioned our stance against ICC’s report. We have asked the ICC to review its decision,” BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury told the media yesterday.

Earlier, the BCB had made a verbal protest against the ICC. Cricket’s governing body in the country had requested the ICC to lift the suspension and mentioned that the test which Taskin underwent in an ICC-accredited laboratory in Chennai is flawed.

According to Nazmul, the ICC has already formed a technical committee to look into the issue. The BCB chief also said they are expecting a positive outcome from the technical committee. The ICC however, is yet to make any statement on the issue till this report was being filed yesterday.

There are slight expectations that Taskin might just return before the Tigers’ remaining 2016 World Twenty20 Super 10 matches against hosts India and New Zealand. Although the ICC has never lifted a suspension on a bowler on such a short notice, they did clear former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar within 11 days in 2000. Shoaib was banned on December 30, 1999, but only 10 days later, he played for Pakistan in an ODI against Australia in Brisbane, arriving a few hours after the match had started.
