Flood hits Sylhet Sunamganj Over One Luck people marooned

dgIn Sylhet,The flood situation in Sylhet has worsened  with the main rivers flowing above the danger level at several points. The Amolshit, Surma, the Kushiara rivers were flowing above the danger level on Saturday.

“Many villagers have been evacuated from the flood-hit areas but many others are  still stranded. The shortage of drinking water and food has intensified the sufferings of the marooned people at Companiganj, Fenchuganj, Balaganj and Osmaninagar upazila, Floodwaters engulfed low-lying areas of the district city.

Chairman of Companiganj upazila, said that about 4 Unions have been isolated from the upazila headquarters. Most of the families living along riverside are in fear of losing their croplands and homesteads. all schools and colleges in upazila have been closed, he added.

In Sunamganj The flood situation in Sunamganj has worsened  with the main rivers flowing above the danger level at several points. The Surma, the Jadukata and the Cholti rivers were flowing above the danger level on Saturday. floodwater had marooned over One lack people in Sunamganj.

The shortage of drinking water and food has intensified the sufferings of the marooned people at Barapara, Pashchim Bazar, Machh Bazar, Shologhar and Nabinagar under Sadar upazila, Nowapara, Mohabbatpur, Chokbazar, Payekpara, Lakkhipur, Kushiara and Voktarpur under Doarabazar upazila, Maharam, Lakmar, Lamakata under Tahirpur upazila, and two villages of Biswambharpur upazila.Floodwaters engulfed low-lying areas of the district town, Darmapasha, Sadar and Tahirpur upazilas, and entered Biswambharpur, Doarabazar, Chhatak and Jamalganj upazilas a week ago.

M Idris Ali, Chairman of Doarabazar upazila, visited flood affected area on Thusday he said, Lakkhipur, Banglabazar and Narsinghpur unions have been isolated from the upazila headquarters. The Balicherra dyke has been damaged, six villages  have been submerged, and 18 points of the embankment have become risky. Most of the families living along riverside are in fear of losing their croplands and homesteads. Shemgaon Government Primary School is under three feet of water, and all schools and colleges in Doarabazar upazila have been closed, he added.

Dipok Kumar Das, Deputy-Divisional Engineer of WDB Sunamganj, said that floodwater had marooned over One lack people in Sunamganj.
