The hearing of a petition by war crimes convict Mir Quasem Ali to review his death sentence has been deferred. A four-member bench headed by chief justice SK Sinha fixed Aug 24 to hear the matter after today’s hearing. The Supreme Court’s order came on Monday after it accepted the defence counsel’s plea for more time. Earlier on June 21, the vacation court of the Appellate Division posted hearing of the petition of Mir Quasem for today.
The Supreme Court’s vacation ends on July 11. On June 19, Mir Quasem filed the review petition seeking his acquittal.
