Barts Health Surgeon Made Top Royal Doctor

hhhA Barts Health doctor has been named as Serjeant-Surgeon to Her Majesty The Queen and the Royal Household.

Satyajit Bhattacharya, who has worked for the St Bartholomew’s and The Royal London hospitals for 17 years, first joined the Royal Household’s team of doctors in 2006.

In his new position as Serjeant-Surgeon, Mr Bhattacharya will continue his work at Barts Health.

Mr Bhattacharya qualified and completed his basic training in Mumbai, India. He then trained in London at the Royal Free and University College Hospitals before joining the then Barts and The London NHS Trust in 1999. He is a consultant general surgeon at the Royal London Hospital and an expert on pancreatic and liver disease.

Satyajit Bhattacharya said: “I am humbled and honoured by this appointment. I am also deeply grateful to my colleagues at Barts Health, as this position reflects the excellent work that we all do within this organisation. I hope to carry on helping her Majesty The Queen, her family and the people of East London for years to come.”
