Radio Shadhin holds event protesting violence against women

Radio Shadhin 92.4 FM and UNDP organised a day long event titled ‘Rise up for women’ on December 1. Held at the Dhaka University Senate building, the event took place on December 1 from 11 am to 7 pm.

The Senate building was festive with prominent cultural and political figures from the morning. The programme started with poems about women empowerment and on the subject of violence on women. Renowned musicians, including Joler Gan, John Kabir, Shandhi, Zephyr, Sina Hasan performed at the event. A drawing competition was held at 2 where hundreds of children took part.

The chairman of Asiatic 360 and acclaimed actor Aly Zaker, the Asst. Country Director of UNDP Bangladesh Khurshid Alam, the managing director of Radio Shadhin Sara Zaker, the vice president of Bangladesh Mohila Ainjibi Shomiti Sheema Zahoor, garment labour leader Nazma Akhtar spoke at the event among others. The speakers spoke about the necessity of safe city and environment to prevent violence against girls and women.
