Police on Saturday (February 11) arrested two among five accused in a murder case filed over the death of three laborers in a landslide at a stone quarry at Bisnakandi under Gowainghat upazila of Sylhet and for trying to hide the bodies on early Friday.
Two arrestees are Jahid Mia from Chittagong and Raju Mia alias Jahid Hasan from Lakshmipur.
Three other accused in the case are stone traders Basir Mia, Azad Mia and Kamal Hossain, all hailed from Bisnakandi.
Gowainghat police station officer-in-charge (OC) Delwar Hossain confirmed the matter to Journalist.
On Friday night, police filed a case with Gowainghat Thana.
Earlier, three laborers were buried under a landslide during excavating stones out of the ground at Kamal Hossain’s stone quarry near the no man’s land of the border area in Bisnakandi around 12:30 am on Friday.
Local people said the quarry owner tried to keep the body hidden. Later, police searched out the bodies and handed over to the family members of each of the victims following their autopsies.
Meanwhile, a taskforce, led by the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), conducted a drive in the quarries and destroyed three shallow machines on Saturday afternoon.
Gowainghat UNO Salah Uddin told that they could not detain any person from the quarries.
He further said they will continue drives.
