Transport strike in Sylhet withdrawn

mnbbThe transport strike, enforced by District Microbus Union, in Sylhet has been withdrawn upon the assurance of administration.
Union president Shah Ripon Ahmed confirmed the matter.

On Friday, they called the strike in connection to a clash with police regarding the confinement of three transport workers from the town’s Mahajon Patti area around 11:00pm on the day.
Earlier in the morning, the vehicle plying for short and long distance has remained standstill due to the strike from today.

The indefinite strike caused immense suffering to the common people as the owner and workers demonstrated in different intersections to press their demand.
However, after the meeting in Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner’s office at noon, the union members called off the strike.

On the other side, district AL general secretary and former MP Shafiqur Rahman was attacked on the way to return from the meeting allegedly by the transport workers.
Later, Police and local AL leader rushed to the spot and rescued him, said Sylhet Kotwali Thana OC Sohel Ahmed.
