SUST students clash with locals; 7 injured

BVNAt least seven students of Sylhet Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) sustained injuries in a clash with local people on Sunday evening.

Witnesses said the trouble ensued when two students, including a female one, went into an altercation with a restaurant owner over paying bills in the afternoon.

In course of the altercation, two local youths – Mostak and Limon –attacked the two students, leaving them injured.

The other students came to know about this attack, gathered at the university gate in their several hundreds and blocked Sylhet-Sunamganj Highway around 6.30am.

They clashed with locals when at least seven of them sustained injuries and vandalised several shops, reportedly owned by locals.

Jalalabad Police Stations Officer-in-Charge Akhter Hossain said the situation was now under control and for that, they had to fire shots in the air.

Vice Chancellor Professor Aminul Haque Bhuiyan visited the spot and assured the students of taking steps about this.
