NRB Global Business Convention which started on Saturday 21st of October, ended at Abul Maal Abdul Muhit Sports Complex in Sylhet city on 23rd October. The organisers said that this was the ending of first three days of the seven day long convention. Rest of the activities of the convention will include visiting NRB owned factories and establishments, holding view-exchanging meetings with them and examining the scopes of investments.
Sylhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) and British-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry are jointly organised the convention.
Non-resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) from 19 countries, including the United Kingdom, Russia, Sweden, Canada, France, US, Spain, Italy, Singapore, and Saudi Arabia, participated in the convention.
A colourful rally was held to mark the end of the NRB Global Business Convention 2017, which started from Chamber Building in Jail Road and ended at Abul Mal Abdul Muhit Sports Complex. President of British Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry Enam Ali MBE and President of Sylhet Chamber of Commerce Khandokar Shipar Ahmed lead the rally where number of businessmen and entrepreneurs from UK, Bangladesh and from other countries took part.
Later on the same day, a seminar on IT and tourism was held at Abul Mal Abdul Muhit Sports Complex. Chairman of Bangladesh Red Crescent and former MP Hafiz Ahmed Majumdar attended the event as Chief Guest. Other guests who took part in the discussion included Information Technologist and President of Basis Mostofa Jabbar, Managing Director of Flora Limited Mostofa Shamsul Islam, Director Sufia Islam, Professor Dr Raqibul Anwar, Dr Hasan Yusuf, Hasan Iqbal, Director of BBCCI Abul Hayat Nuruzzaman and others.
Guests who addressed the audience included Mayor of Sylhet City Corporation Ariful Haque Chowdhury, former Mayor Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran, President of Sylhet Chamber Khandakar Shipar Ahmed, President of BBCCI Enam Ali MBE, Vice-president of Sylhet Chamber Md Emdad Hossain, Director of BBCCI Shafiqul Islam, Director of BBCCI Monir Ahmed and others.
On his Chief Guest’s speech on three day long convention, Finance and Planning Minister M A Mannan MP said that the NRBs are contributing hugely in every sectors including socio, economic and education. The present government possesses and open mind toward the NRBs and hence passing laws benefitting the NRBs.
On his Special Guest’s sppech. Inspector General of Police A K M Shahidul Haque said that the police has lots of responsibilities towards the expats. The expats have been subject to much harassment and pestering in Bangladesh and hence the Police have established Expatriate Helpdesk in Bangladesh. He urged all expatriates to contact police directly if they are subject to any harassment and pestering.
The special guests at the event were Mayor of Sylhet City Corporation Ariful Haque Chowdhury, MP Mahmud Us Samad Chowdhury Koyes, Permanent Representative of Bangladesh in United Nations Dr A K M Abdul Momen, Divisional Commissioner D Ms Manmanara Khatun, DIG Sylhet range Kamrul Ahsan and the main organiser of the convention and President of BBCCI Enam Ali MBE.
Other guests who addressed the audience were former President of Sylhet Chamber Salah Uddin Ali Ahmed, Director General of British Chamber Saydur Rahman Renu and Director of Sylhet Chamber Nurul Islam.
On Sunday Capital and Investment seminar was held. Permanent Representative of Bangladesh in United Nations Dr A K M Abdul Momen conducted the event. Guests who took part in the discussion included former Chairman of Chittagong Stock Exchange Fakhar Uddin Ahmed, former President of BBCCI and Chariman of Women’s Medical College Hospital Dr Wali Tasar Uddin, former Chairman of Rupali Bank Dr Ahmed Al Kabir, Managing Director of Baraka Power Limited Golam Rabbani Chowdhury, Chief Executive Officer of BRAC EPL Sharif M A Rahman, Helen Hossain, Ayub Korom Ali and others.
Former Director General of BBCCI Dr Kabir H Chowdhury and Director Monir Ahmed were also present at the event.
