Shahjahan for formulating mega plan for Cox’s Bazar

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Shahjahan Kamal yesterday directed the concerned authority to formulate a mega plan for building Cox’s Bazar, the beach town of the country, as a modern tourism city.

“I would like to turn Cox’s Bazaar into a modern tourism city,” he said while speaking at a view-exchange discussion at the conference room of district administration here.

The minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken a number of mega projects for further development of Cox’s Bazar including upgrading the local airport to international standard and extending rail link to the beach city.

“After implementing these projects, the country’s tourism industry will get a big boost,” he said.

The minister said the development projects will be implemented after securing interests of the local habitants. “We are aware so that local people won’t be affected by the development endeavors,” he said.

Presided over by deputy district commissioner of Cox’s Bazar M Ali Hossain, the meeting was also addressed by Members of Parliament Saimum Sarwar Komol and Asheq Ullah Rafiq and Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary S M Ghulam Farooque, among others.
