Dancers presented diverse classical dance forms at Chhayanaut Shangskriti Bhaban auditorium in Dhanmondi on Friday.
The event, organised by Chhayanaut as part of its annual classical dance festival, featured manipuri, bharatanatyam and kathak dance recitals by dancers from different troupes.
The festival, dedicated to manipuri dance exponent Guru Bipin Singh, began with a manipuri dance recital titled ‘Mangalcharan’ by dancers of Chhayanaut. Besides, the dancers presented dance recitals like Krishna Keerthanam, Mangalcharan O Bazikar Khel, Tanum, Kaliya Daman and Tukra Malika at the show.
The audience greatly enjoyed bharatanatyam performance by Chhayanaut dancers and solo dance recital by Amit Chowdhury. Besides, dancers of Srishti Cultural Centre Dhaka and Jago Art Centre also presented bharatanatyam dance recitals.
Dancers of Kathak Dance Community and Nrittyanchal from Dhaka, among others, presented kathak dance recitals to the delight of the audience. Besides, SM Hasan Iushtiaq Imran presented solo kathak recital at the event.
A houseful audience enjoyed the show.
‘I have really enjoyed the dance recitals presented by the male dancers. I hope they will organise more such programmes in future’, Md Khairul Basher Arefin, an audience member, told New Age.
Mallika Momo, a student of music department of Dhaka University, said, ‘I always enjoy watching classical dance recitals as such dance forms remind us of the ancient rituals. I thank the organisers for holding such an event.’
