The authorities of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) expelled four students and suspended three others for different terms on different charges, including ragging freshers.
Two students- Ashik Ahmed Himel and Md Hamidur Rahman Rangan, students of Civil and Engineering Department of session 2016-17, were expelled for their involvement in ragging six freshers.
Besides, Md Mahmudul Hasan and Shah Riaz Jaman were suspended for two years while Ishtiaque Ahmed for one year.
The authorities also fined Mahmudul, Riaz and Ishtiaque Tk 10,000 each , Bablu Marma, Adri Das, Md Abu Redwan Khan, Omar Ali Sarker and Roni Sarker Tk 6000 each, nine students Tk 3000 each while warned two others.
Besides, Al-Amin, student of ‘Food Engineering’ Department of 2015-16 session, was expelled on charge of fraudulence in admission test and Rasel Parvej, a student of Computer Science and Engineering Department, was expelled for stabbing two students.
The decision was taken in the 207th meeting of disciplinary committee presided over by Vice Chancellor Professor Farid Uddin.
Protesting the decision, the students of Civil and Engineering Department staged demonstrations at Banghabandhu Chattar .
Earlier on February 15, around 19 students of Civil and Engineering Department and a student of Political Studies Department ragged and tortured six freshers.
