Dhaka, Apr 30 : Two agreements were signed for an 8-kilometre Agargaon-Motijheel Metro Rail route on Monday, with two Japanese companies in a city hotel in the presence of chief guest Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, also the Awami League general secretary.
Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) Managing Director MAN Siddique and Tsuyoshi Nishimura of Japanese construction firm Tekken Corporation signed one agreement on behalf of their respective sides.
The other agreement was signed by the DMTCL managing director and Ikuokitada of Sumitomo Mitsui Construction Co Ltd. The total cost of the projects under the two agreements is Tk 4,200 crore.
The almost 20-kilometre Metro Rail route-6 is being constructed in eight phases. The contracts awarded today were in relation to two of the packages, the 5th and 6th, under which the 8-kilometre viaduct from Agargaon-Motijheel via Kawran Bazar, and 7 stations along the way will be built.
In the third and fourth phase, construction of nine kilometers of viaducts and nine stations from Uttara North to Agargaon is progressing in full swing, according to the project.
