The deceased was identified as Md Ali, 60, of the same village.
Locals said two groups locked into an altercation after Juma prayers over recruitment of an imam at the mosque ahead of the month of Ramadan.
At one stage, the clash became a fierce one that left eleven people injured.
Later, severely injured Ali was rushed to Kanaighat Health Complex where the duty doctor declared him dead.
On information, police rushed there and brought the situation under control said Abdul Ahad, officer-in-charge of Kanaighat Police Station.
However, additional forces have been deployed after the clash.
