EC secretary Helaluddin Ahmed made the announcement on Sunday afternoon (May 13).
He said candidates can run their election campaigns starting from June 18 to June 24 midnight. No campaigns will be allowed before June 18.
Earlier the apex court ordered to hold the GCC election by June 28 scrapping an HC order that stayed the polls for three months.
After SC cleared the way, the EC held a meeting on Sunday and came up with the new schedule.
According to previous schedule, the GCC election was supposed to be held on May 15. However the High Court stayed the election following a writ regarding demarcation of the poll areas.
Later BNP and ruling Awami League mayoral candidates and also the EC filed petition with the Supreme Court challenging the HC order.
