Sylhet Office : Newly elected Sylhet city mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury takes charge of Nagar Bhaban office in presence of councillors, officials and employees of the city corporation in Sylhet on Monday.
Sylhet City Corporation’s newly elected mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury on Monday took over the charge of Nagar Bhaban office for second consecutive time.
The city corporation secretary Badrul Islam handed over the charge to Arif, also national executive council members of Bangladesh Nationalist Party, in presence of the councillors, officials and employees in the afternoon.
Talking to newsmen after taking over the charge, Arif said that he wanted to finish the uncompleted development works in the city first of all.
‘After completion of the uncompleted works, I want to begin implementing the development projects mentioned in my election manifesto. Besides, the prevailing problems in the city would also be addressed on priority basis,’ he added.
Responding to another query of the reporters, the SCC mayor said that he had a number of plans, including launching bus service in the city to reduce traffic congestion on the streets, which would be implemented gradually through discussing with the experts.
Arif also sought cooperation from all quarters of the society to make Sylhet a better city to live.
Earlier at the noon, Arif visited the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal in the city and offered Fateha, arranged a milad and doa mahfil at the ground floor of Nagar Bhaban after Zohr prayers ahead of taking over the charge of his office.
On September 5, prime minister Sheikh Hasina administered Arif oath as SCC mayor after he was elected for second time beating the ruling Awami League nominated candidate Badar Uddin Ahmad Kamran.
