Hollywood actress and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) special envoy Angelina Jolie is visiting the Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Ukhiya of Cox’ Bazar.
She arrived at the Kutupalong extension 4 camp around 10:30am on Tuesday and visited the education facilities there.
Jolie then visited a healthcare centre at Kutupalong 3 Rohingya camp. She spoke with Rohingya women at the camp.
She is scheduled to visit a hospital, run by the Hope Foundation, at Kutupalong 4 Rohingya camp and speak with registered Rohingya people living there.
Jolie will also hold a press briefing at Kutupalong Rohingya camp D Block at 3pm.
She will leave Cox’s Bazar for Dhaka on Wednesday morning, sources said.
On the first day of her five-day visit to Bangladesh, the special envoy of UNHCR arrived at Cox’s Bazar on a chartered flight around 10:30am on Monday.
Jolie was appointed a special envoy of the refugee agency in April 2012 after years of dedicated service to the cause.
In 2017, Jolie expressed her desire to visit the Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar after learning about the abuse of Rohingya women by Myanmar security forces.
