International Convention of VCs’ held at SUST

Araf Ahmad, SUST Correspondent : An international convention of Chancellor and Vice Chancellors held at Shahjalal University of Science & Technology, (SUST) in Sylhet.

A daylong convention with titled ‘International Convention of Vice Chancellors- ICVC-2019’, held on Saturday at central auditorium with participation a total 24 Chancellor and Vice-chancellors from north eastern regions of Bangladesh and India.

It has organized by SUST under the patronage of University Grant Commission, Bangladesh (UGC) in association with University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya (USTM). A total number of 15 universities from India and 8 from Bangladesh have participated at convention. In the convention, the VC’s mentioned various proposals which they would expect to bring about a change in the education system of those regions.

 

The education minister of Government of Bangladesh Dr. Dipu Moni was the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the conference on Saturday morning while UGC chairman Prof Abdul Mannan, VC of Gauhati University Prof Mridul Hazarika and Chancellor of USTM Mahbubul Haque were present as special guests. SUST VC Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed presided over the Ceremony while Member Secretary of the convention Prof Dr. M. Jahirul Islam delivered welcome speech and program convener Prof Dr. A M M Mukaddes also addressed. Later UGC Chairman chaired ‘the Convention’ session of VC’s, where they discussed about the expansion of education activities in both areas in the countries.

Chief guest Dr. Dipu Moni Said, India had great contribution in 1971’s liberation war. we are very thankful to their government and people. We want to work together in the field of education, innovation, science and technology. North eastern region both Bangladesh and India are very similar according to culture, views, language and environment. If we to enrich our educational field, we will must build up our connectivity. Connectivity very important for development. We will expect that this convention would bring new era in education for north eastern part of both countries.’
