The International Crimes Tribunal has set Thursday for delivering the verdict in the sensational war crimes case for murdering philanthropist Ranada Prasad Saha, his son Bhabani Prasad Saha and five others during the Liberation War in 1971.
The tribunal fixed the date for announcing its verdict on Wednesday, said Gazi M H Tamim, lawyer of the accused.
A three-member tribunal led by Justice Md Shahinur Islam kept the case waiting after both the prosecution and defence counsels completed their closing argument on April 24.
The lone accused of the case, Mahbubur Rahman, 69, of Tangail’s Mirzapur, has been in jail since November in 2016.
He was indicted on three counts of genocide on March 28, 2018 for allegedly abducting and killing Ranada Prasad, his son Bhabani Prasad and five others.
According to the prosecution, Mahbubur Rahman was associated with Jamaat’s politics and became a member of Razakar force in 1971.
