Sylhet Office : A total of fifty-six journalists working in Sylhet on Sunday lodged General Diary (GD) with local police station seeking life security.

After being concerned over the arrest of a journalist by plain cloth men on Thursday night, the journalists of electronic media lodged General Diary seeking life security with Kotowali police station at a time around 1:30 pm on Sunday.

The journalists alleged that a group of armed plain-cloth men picked up NTV’s senior correspondent Moinul Haque Bulbul on Thursday (September 19) night from Sylhet Women’s Medical College Hospital.

Leaders of Electronic Media Journalist Association (EMJA) of Sylhet had been contacting the branches of law enforcement agencies since after Bulbul’s arrest but they did not get any information about him.

Bappa Ghosh, president of Sylhet EMJA said that though there was a High Court’s prohibitory order over arresting in plainclothes, Sylhet district police have been exploiting their power violating the court order.

“Such unlawful act of Sylhet police makes us anxious about our lives,” he added.

Confirming the matter, Selim Mia, Officer-in-charge of SMP’s Kiotowali police station said a total of fifty-six journalists of electronic media had filed general diaries.
