HSC examinatios on schedule:Nahid

41The Ministry of Education has decided to hold the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent exams at all centres across the country amid the blockade and hartal.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said the exams would begin on April 1 as scheduled, despite the political turmoil. “We have published the HSC routine. The exams will be held according to it. There will be no change. We don’t want to take the blockade and hartal into consideration,” he told The Independent over telephone yesterday (Monday).
This is the first time that the Ministry of Education has announced holding of exams amid political activities, including blockade and hartal.
The Education Minister urged the examinees to concentrate on their studies without thinking of other matters.
The minister said: “Classes are going on in full swing in all schools and colleges amid the hartal and blockade. Even there are traffic jams on the streets. Nobody is caring about the hartal and blockade. We cannot stop our activities amid the blasting of crude bombs.”
As per the routine, the theoretical exams of the HSC and its equivalent will begin on April 1 and continue till
June 11.
Dr Srikanta Kumar Chanda, Controller of Examinations of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, told The Independent: “We have sent the question papers and other materials to the centres. All our preparations have been completed to hold the exams on April 1.”
The ongoing blockade and intermittent hartal, enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance, have hampered the normal routine of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent exams. They were scheduled to end on March 11, but will now end on March 28. The practical will be completed by April 2.
The ministry did not hold the SSC exams on hartal days, considering the security of the examinees. But this time, the ministry has decided to hold the exams amid the blockade and shutdown.
