Poet Abdul Hye Mashreki remembered

54Prominent folk bard of the country Abdul Hye Mashreki was remembered in the city on Thursday. To mark his 96th birth anniversary, different socio-cultural organisations arranged commemorative programme across the country. Gunijon.com and Agnibina, a Nazrul resarch center, jointly held a cultural programme and discussion on the premises of the ‘Monthly Jono Proshashon’ in the capital on Thursday. HM Siraj, president of ‘Agnibina Sangsad’, presided over the programme while eminent filmmaker Shankar Sajal attended the programme as chief guest. Former lawmaker Principal Abu Sayeed, MR Monju, president of Bangladesh Geetikobi Parishad, Painter Jalal Ahmed, Abu Taher Bokul, Poet Reza Sarwar, Poet Belal Hossain, Poet China, Editor of the Jono Proshashon Naeem Mashreki and Managing Director of the Gunijon.com Sharif Mohammad Masum addressed the discussion, among others. Besides, an art and essay competition on poet Mashreki was held on the Gendaria Kochi Kacha Kisholoy premises in the city. Abdul Hye Mashreki was born in Mymensingh on April 1 in 1919. He came to be known as a folk-rooted poet and a researcher since the 1930-40s. His poems, songs, articles, stories and palas were regularly published in magazines like Saogat, Mahe-Nao, Dilruba, Mohammadi, Parichoy, Pubali, Sangbad, Azad and Ittefak. To pay tribute to the folk bard, Poet Abdul Hye Mashreki Research Centre and Agnibina are going to organise a three-day event at Bangladesh Shilpaka Academy in the city from April 25 to 27.
