Eight
people, including a schoolgirl and two women, have been killed when struck by lightning in three districts in Bangladesh.
Those killed hailed from Sunamganj, Sherpur and Dinajpur on Sunday morning.
Four of them, including three farmers, were killed in Sunamganj.
Abdul Kadir, 20, Haribhakt Das, 40, and Abdul Jalil, 50, died on the spot after being struck by lightning while working in paddy fields in Dirai and Madhyapur Upazilas.
In Dinajpur, Md Ferdous, 45, was hit by lightning when working in field. He died in a local hospital later.
Lightning killed Rasheda Begum, 40, and 50-year-old Maleka Begum, when they were working in their courtyards at Sunamganj and Sherpur.
In Sherpur, grade VII student Mariam Begum, 12, fell into a pond and died after being struck by lightning, police say.
Lightning struck Baddi Mia, 35, and four others when they were cutting trees in the district.
On Apr 17, six people, mostly farmers, died in Sunamganj after being struck by lightning during a nor’wester.
