Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) is going to construct a landfill in the outskirt of the metropolitan area with financial cooperation from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to scientifically manage environmental healthy waste management system at the earliest.
Consequently, people in the nearby areas would be relieved from foul stenches and pollution.
SCC sources said that the landfill would be constructed covering around 10-acre area at Lalmatia in Dakkhin Surma spending Tk30 crore, implemented under Urban Public and Environment Health Sector Development project.
Sanitary and solid waste management expert Martin Feelgreen along with SCC officials has already visited the place.
Sylhet City Corporation’s Chief Executive Officer Enamul Habib told that the ADB-financed project would eliminate pollutions caused by the waste dumping ground under the open sky.
Enamul Habib also said that the work of landfill might be started from June or July of current year and ended by the mid of 2016.
The project’s acting chief engineer Noor Azizur Rahman told The Correspondent, the primary tasks of the project including the design have already finished and a tender in this regard would be floated soon.
