Lemon cultivation is gaining popularity among the farmers in the district due to good economic prospect of the crop.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said a total of 310 hectares of land have been brought under the cultivation in the district with the production target of 574 tonnes.
Many farmers in the district who achieved self-reliance and changed their lot through the farming during the last few years are being highly interested to cultivate lemon. Farmers of the district have been cultivating various high yielding of lemon commercially.
Balal Hussain, a lemon cultivator of jointapur upazila said, “I have cultivated lemon on five bighas of land this year and I am hoping to get good profit.”
He cultivated lemon on the bank of his pond and fruits have come in the trees abundantly.
Deputy Director (DD) of DAE said they encouraged farmers and providing training on growing lemons as the soil and climate of the district is suitable for lemon farming.
Farmers are also showing their interest in its cultivation as they are making good profit, the also said.
