Mirza Fakhrul hospitalised by HC order

17BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been admitted to the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) after an order from the High Court.

The BNP leader has been taken to BSMMU prison ward in an ambulance from the Kashimpur jail on Saturday morning.

Doctor at the Kashimpur jail Md Shahadat Hossain told bdnews24.com that Fakhrul has a blockade at the internal carotid artery. He has also been suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes.

The High Court has given the order to move Fakhrul after his wife appealed following an allegation made by BNP that their party leaders were not getting proper treatment at the prison.

Kashimpur jailor Md Nasir Uddin said the BNP senior leader was taken to BSMMU in an ambulance around 10:30am after the HC order.

Earlier, Fakhrul had been taken to the hospital thrice for medical tests. In May, he had been sent back to prison from the hospital after some tests.

Dr Shahadat said the BNP leader needs to see a vascular surgeon, a neurologist, a gastroenterologist and a cardiologist. Even though he was taken to the hospital before, it was not possible for all the specialists to do necessary tests on him.

“He (Fakhrul) wanted to be tested while admitted to the hospital. Earlier, he had expressed his discomfort over being carried to the hospital over and over again.”

Fakhrul was arrested five months ago and has been in prison since then. He has cases of violence including arson attack filed against him.
