SUST teachers continue movement

24A section of pro-Awami League teachers of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) continued their movement for the 3rd consecutive day on Wednesday, demanding the removal of the Vice-Chancellor, reports UNB.
Campus sources said as a part of the movement against the SUST VC, a section of pro-Awami League teachers put the VC’s office under lock and key in the morning and staged sit-in in front of the office.
SUST VC Prof Aminul Haque Bhuiyan could not enter his office today due to the movement.
The agitating teachers said they will continue their movement until the VC steps down.
Meanwhile, a section of students under the banner of ‘general students’ formed a human chain on the campus demanding an end to the movement for maintaining proper environment of education.
Earlier, the pro-AL teachers confined the VC to his office on Monday morning demanding his removal.
However, the VC managed to go out of his office around 4 pm.
On April 20, 35 teachers of Shahjalal University for Science and Technology (SUST), including renowned author Prof Dr Muhammed Zafar Iqbal, resigned from their administrative posts demanding resignation of their Vice Chancellor.
On April 13, an altercation broke out when 19 teachers from Physics and Geography and Environment departments of the university went to hold talks with the VC over space allocation between the two departments.
Following the altercation, Prof Dr Syed Badiuzzaman Faruk of Physics and Prof Dr Sharif Mohammad Sharafuddin of Geography and Environment resigned as heads of the two departments.
