Protest against VC continues at SUST

42A section of teachers of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) under the banner of ‘Mohan Muktijuddher Chetonay Udbuddho Shikshokbrindo’ brought out a procession on the campus yesterday demanding removal of Vice-Chancellor Professor Aminul Haque Bhuiyan.
Meanwhile, Awami League Sylhet city and district unit leaders sat in a meeting with agitating teachers in Amborkhana area aimed at resolving the crisis on Saturday.
Former mayor and Awami League city unit President Bodoruddin Ahmed Kamran told they had taken initiatives to keep congenial atmosphere on the campus.
Campus sources said teachers of the platform took position in front of the VC’s office around 8am. Later, they took out a procession from the spot that paraded main points of the campus.

Shikhok Samity Professor Anwarul Alam, General Secretary of the organisation Dr Abdul Goni and Professor Yunus, Professor Yasmin Haque took part in the agitation programme.
Office-in-Charge of Jalalabad police station Akter Hossain told that they were observing situation of the campus. “Sunday, teachers of the SUST observed peaceful programme demanding removal of the VC. Additional police have been deployed on the campus to avoid any untoward incident, he added.
Teachers of the forum started observing agitation programme on Monday when VC  Aminul Haque came back to the campus to join his office after a two-month vacation.
On April 23, Vice-Chancellor Prof Aminul Haque Bhuiyan went on a two-month leave amid protest in the university in demand of his resignation. The tension was erupted on April 13 when 19 teachers from the physics department and geography and environment department of the university went to hold a talk with the VC over space allocation between the departments on April 13.
