Islamic parties demand capital punishment to Latif Siddique

21Leaders of different Islamic parties in Sylhet on Friday threatened to go for a tough movement unless former minister Abdul Latif Siddique is sentenced to death for his ‘derogatory’ comments on hajj and tabligh jamaat.
A large number of members of Islamic parties, including Hefazat-e-Islam, Khelafat Majlish, Jamiote Olama Islam, Nejam-e-Islam Party and Islami Shasantantro Andolon, marched through the capital after Jumma prayers to press home their demand.
Demanding capital punishment to Latif Siddique, they chanted various slogans.
“Latif is an enemy of Islam. He should be hanged for insulting Islam. We will not go back unless our demands are fulfilled,”
A huge number of law enforcers were deployed in and around Court Mosque to avert violence.Policemen were seen body-searching Muslim devotees while entering the mosque area on Friday.
Latif Siddique, who was arrested seven months ago on charges of hurting religious sentiments, was freed on bail on June 29.
A total of 22 cases were filed against Latif Siddique in 18 districts after he made the anti-Islam comments at a programme in New York in September last year.
