Security up in Sylhet city ahead of Eid

23Sylhet  Metropolitan Police (SMP) authorities have taken tight security measures for smoothly celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of Muslims across the country, likely on July 19.
To ensure tight and effective security, the police department has set up Closed Circuit (CC) cameras at important places, especially near the markets, banks, railway stations and the city’s entry points.
Police also set up two control rooms at SMP headquarter and its special branch.
Additional Commissioner (AC) of SMP Rukon Uddin said the SMP authorities took a bunch of security measures during Ramadan and ahead of the Eid.
The security measures were adopted in separate meetings in the first week of Ramadan and before Ramadan at the SMP headquarters with its Commissioner Kamrul Hasan in the chair.
A total of 2,000 police personnel including detective and plain clothes police were deployed at the city markets, shopping malls, in front of different banks, railway station, bus and launch terminals and the busy public places for ensuring security of the people.
At least sixteen check posts will be set up at different points including the city’s entry points seven days ahead of Eid,
Additional Commissioner (AC) of SMP said, adding that the DB police were already deployed with mobile devices in front of the banks, financial organizations and Eid markets.
Two platoons of police will be deployed before and after the Eid Jamaat at the city’s main Eidgah on the Shahi Eidgah Ground while one platoon police will be at all important Eidgah.
