Fresh evidence submitted against Salauddin Quader

29Attorney General (AG) Mahbubey Alam on Wednesday submitted fresh evidence against Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, indicating to the fact that the BNP leader was well inside Bangladesh during the War of Liberation.
Earlier, the prosecution had submitted the photocopy of a report published on Daily Pakistan on 29 September 1971, which mentioned that sons of Fazlul Quader Chowdhury have carried out destruction in Chittagong at that time and one of them got injured in the counter attack of the Freedom Fighters, BSS reports.
Quoting witnesses, Attorney General in the appeal hearing submitted that it was Salauddin, who got injured in an attack by the Freedom Fighters. But Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, chief counsel of Salauddin, argued that the evidence is false and fabricated and his client was not present in the country in 1971.
The Attorney General on Wednesday submitted the original copy of the daily of that day before the Appellate Division (AD).
The AD yesterday set July 29 for pronouncing verdict on the appeal filed by Salauddin, challenging his death sentence given by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1.
The ICT-1 sentenced Salauddin Quader Chowdhury to death on October 1, 2013, and he lodged appeal against the tribunal order on October 29 the same year.
Hearing on the appeal filed by Salauddin started on June 16, 2015 and on July 1, the prosecution concluded their arguments on the matter.
