Body formed to probe Rajon murder Ismail on 5-day remand

2A court here on Tuesday placed accused Ismail Hossain Ablu on a 5-day remand in the case for torturing Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon to death at Sundar Ali Market in Kumargaon area of the city on July 8. A five-member committee has been formed to investigate the brutal killing of 13-year-old boy Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon.
Judge Farhana Yeasmin of the Judicial Magistrate Court no. 2 passed the order after police produced Ismail before her court seeking a seven-day remand.
Akter Hossain, officer-in-charge of Jalalabad Police Station, confirmed the matter.
Earlier, police arrested Ismail Hossain Ablu, 32, cousin of the prime accused Muhit Alam, from Lamakaji Mirergaon area under Jalalabad police station in the city early Monday in connection with the murder of teenage boy Rajon.
Another accused Quamrul Islam, 24, brother of the main accused, Muhit Alam in the killing case was held in Jeddah of Saudi Arabia on Monday.
Muhit was arrested while trying to dump the body of Rajon on Wednesday, while Muhit’s wife Lipi Begum arrested on Monday.
The 13-year-old boy, Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon, son of Sheikh Azizur Rahman of Badeali village in sadar upazila, was brutally tortured to death over a theft at Sundar Ali Market in Kumargaon area of the city on July 8.
The killers themselves took the video footage of the incident and uploaded it on the internet.
The video clip went viral on social networking site Facebook and video-sharing site Youtube which caused an outcry.
The video footage of the teenage boy being brutally tortured has triggered an outcry on Sunday.
Jalalabad police filed a case against four people, including Muhit, his brother Quamrul Islam, 24, their associate, Ali Haider alias Ali, 34, and guard Moyna Mia alias Boro Moyna, 45, in this connection.
Rajon died of brain hemorrhage following the torture, said the autopsy report on Monday.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner Rahmat Ullah to led the probe body.
Other members of the committee are Assistant Commissioner of DB Police AFM Nizam Uddin, Jalalabad police Assistant Commissioner Kamrul Islam, Jalalabad OC Akhtar Hossain and second officer SI Jakir Hossain.
Meanwhile, police detained prime accused Muhit’s wife Lipi Begum, 25, on Monday evening in connection with the murder.
The ill-fated teenager was tortured to death by a group of persons at Kumargaon on the outskirts of Sylhet city around 7:30am on July 8.
A murder case was filed in this regard by Jalalabad police, in which Rajan’s father later became a plaintiff. Muhit was listed as the prime accused in the case, while his brother Kamrul Islam, 24, their accomplice Ali Haider, 34, and guard Moyna Miah, 45, were charged with murder as well.
Three of the tormentors have been detained so far in connection with the barbaric killing.
Prime accused Muhit was held while dumping Rajon’s body on the day of the murder. Later Muhit’s cousin Ismail Hossain Abullus was detained in Sylhet and absconding accused Kamrul Islam was held in Jeddah of Saudi Arabia on Monday.
A Sylhet court placed Muhit on a five-day remand on Monday in the case filed over Rajon’s murder.
A 28-minute video, recorded on a mobile phone camera, shows the victim tied to a pole in front of a workshop in the still-closed Sultan Ali Market, beside the Dhaka-Sunamganj road. From the video, it seemed there were five to six men who took part in the barbaric torture.
Informed about the suspect, police went to the spot and took Muhit into custody and recovered Rajan’s body from a microbus. The body was identified by Rajan’s family at the police station on the night of July 8.
