Bangladesh will officially celebrate Eid on Saturday subject to the sighting of the Shawwal moon on Friday.
However, followers of different clerics in these villages always observe most religious festivals like Ramadan, Eid, Shab-e-Barat and Shab-e-Meraj in keeping with dates of such practices in Middle Eastern countries.
Followers of Hazrat Shah Jahangir of Shatkania haves long been observing religious festivals on the dates chosen by Saudi Arabia and, accordingly, is marking Eid on Friday. They had also started the Ramadan fast a day earlier.
National Heart Foundation’s doctor and Chandanaish’s Satbarhia area resident, Sorowar Hossain Chowdhury, said the main congregation was held at Mirza Khil Darbar Sharif at 10:30am.
Devotees of various villages including Charati, Suipura Union, Badamtal and Bainjuri also marked Eid on Friday. Followers in various Upazila’s of Cox’s Bazar including Chakaria, Teknaf, Maheshkhali and Kutubdia also did the same.
Thousands of Mirza Khil followers of ten villages in Boalmari Upazila joined the 10am congregation at the Eidgah in Shekhar Union of Rakhaltali village on Friday.
Alafdanga Degree College’s assistant professor Mahidul Haque said, “We, the followers of Mirza Khil Sharif, celebrate Eid in line with Saudi Arabia.”
Eid-ul-Fitr was observed in nine villages on Friday with the congregation hosted at the residence of Malek Chairman of Bakultala Village in Betagi Upazila around 8 am.
Moklesur Rahman Sharif, resident of Pajarbhanga village of Sadar Upazila, said they were disciples of cleric Kaderia Chistia and follow Saudi Arabia in marking religious occasions.
Other Chistia followers in various villages of Sadar, Amatali and Patharghata Upazilas also marked Eid on Friday.
Eid-ul-Fitr was marked at various places in four Dinajpur upazila’s including the district headquarters.
Mawlana Rouf Uddin led the Eid congregation at 8:30am on Friday at the Daffodil Community Centre.
He told that residents of 17 villages had observed the festival according to the Saudi Arabian schedule.
Followers of Sureshwari and Satkania Durbars in 10 villages have marked Eid on Friday at five Upazila’s of Bhola.
