National Fisheries Week begins in Sylhet

2Celebration of National Fisheries Week-2015 began in the district today (Tuesday) as elsewhere in the country with the slogan “In Ocean, River, All Water, Fish Culture Creates Gold”.
Marking the week, district administration and department of fisheries chalked out elaborate programmes that will be held till August 03.
In the morning, a big colorful rally led by Additional Divisional Commissioner Md. Al -Amin  brought out from DC Office  and terminated at Zilla Parishad (ZP) campus after parading the main roads of the City.
Later, a discussion meeting was held at the auditorium of Zila Parisad with additional deputy commissioner (General) Mirajul Islam Ukil in the chair.
Additional Divisional Commissioner Md. Al -Amin addressed the meeting as the chief guest.
The meeting was also addressed, among others, by district fisheries officer Sonkor Ronjon, Sadar upazila fisheries officer, fish cultivator.
Divisional Commissioner stressed the need for enhancing fish production in the open-water bodies of the country to meet the protein deficiency and poverty alleviation along with employment generation.
Referring to the immense prospect of the fisheries sector she said fish production could easily be increased to a great extent with the best use of existing natural resources.
