A landslide, caused by heavy rains, in Bandarban has buried six people alive, while another died after being rescued.
The incident occurred below a hill at Lama Upazila’s Haspatal Parha at the early hours of Saturday, said local administration chief Khaled Mahmud.
The fire service along with the locals conducted the rescue operation, which was called off in the afternoon.
Four bodies were pulled out until morning while two others were recovered in the afternoon.
They have been identified as Amena Begum, 35, Rozina Akter, 34, ‘Futu’, 10 and ‘Sazzad’, 5 ‘Bashir’, 70 and Fatema Akter, 8.
Seventy-year-old Dulu Mia and ‘Arafat’, 15, were rescued from the debris but the teenager died later while being shifted to Chittagong from the Lama Upazila hospital.
