A court in Sylhet on monday set August 10 for framing charges in the former finance minister Shah AMS Kibria murder case.
Sylhet divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal’s judge Mokbul Ahsan passed the order in the morning.
A total of 20 accused including mayor of Habiganj municipality GK Gous and some members of the banned Harkatul Jihad were present at the court during the hearing.
Sacked mayor of Sylhet City Corporation Arifiul Haque Chowdhury was not present before the court on the plea of sickness. Harkatul Jihad’s supremo Mufti Abdul Hannan and former state minister for home affairs Lutfuzzaman Babar were not placed before the court as they were supposed to appear before the court in some other cases.
Public prosecutor Advocate Kishore Kumar Kar said the court fixed August 10 for framing charges in Kibria murder case.
Earlier on June 11, Habiganj District and Session Judges Court sent the case to Sylhet Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal aimed at completing the trial quickly.
A total of five people including Shah AMS Kibria were killed and many others injured in grenade attacks on a rally of Awami League at Baidderbazar in Habiganj on January 27, 2005.
