National Mourning Day programme in Sylhet

30Local administration has taken up elaborate programme to observe the National Mourning Day on August 15, the 40th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, in the district with due respect and befitting manner.

The day-long programme was adopted at a meeting in presence of leaders of Bangladesh Awami League and its front organizations, heads of educational institutions, representatives from socio-cultural organizations and journalists of print and electronic media, office sources said.

Local administration organized the meeting and Deputy Commissioner (DC) M Joinal Abedin presided over it. The meeting was held at the conference room of the district collectorate building today.

The programme includes hoisting of National flag at half-mast at all government, semi-government, autonomous and private buildings, placing of floral wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and will bring out mourning procession from there in the City.

The programme also include art competition of children organized by Bangladesh Shishu Academy, cultural progamme, reciting, special Doa and Milad Mahfil and discussion meeting on the life and works of Bangabandhu.

Different sub-committees were also formed to observe the day in the district with due respect and honour.

The DC sought cooperation of all to make the programme a grand success in seven upazilas of the district through active participation of the people from all walks of life.

The meeting was also addressed, among others, by Police Super Ashraful Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mirajul Islam Ukil and others.

Besides, district AL and its front organizations have also chalked out the elaborate programmes to observe the day, party sources said.
