While she has many movies on her filmography, Katrina Kaif says she still feels anxious on the Friday her film hits theatres.
“Though you don’t get as jittery as before, and may not be shaking [with fear], you definitely feel emotional, anxious and scared. And you feel it with every film, because, after all, it’s judgment day,” says the actor, whose next will release after almost a year (her last film was Bang Bang; 2014).
Interestingly, her last four films — Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012), Dhoom: 3 (2013), Bang Bang and Kabir Khan’s upcoming movie with Saif Ali Khan — have hit the theatres after a gap of nearly a year, leading to a perception that Katrina isn’t aggressive enough about her career now.
“Ninety-nine percent of it (the perception) is due to the long gap between my last few films. And I am that kind of person, if I don’t have a release for nine months, I will stay away [from the limelight] during that period. I won’t be like, ‘I need to make some noise, since I have no film releasing.’ I will wait,” she says.
Owing to the long gaps between her films and her being a “private person”, isn’t there a risk of festering a perception of being arrogant?
“A private person [like me] doesn’t like to talk about sensitive and delicate topics like relationship and love. And if that (being silent) is misconceived as arrogance, then it’s the ignorance of that person [who forms such a perception about me],” says Katrina, adding that “at the moment, we (her boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina) are focusing on work.”
The actor also says that she won’t shy away from talking about her wedding, when it happens. “When you decide to get married, and are prepared to tell the world that ‘we are making a commitment’, you become comfortable with people talking about it. I want everyone in the world to attend my wedding,” she says.
Ask her if she is in a peaceful space in her personal life, and Katrina says, “I am happy and at peace. I am also a bit superstitious to speak about these things (her relationship) beyond a point in public. What’s private should remain private,” she says.
In the past few months, talks about Katrina Kaif’s ‘roka’ and an engagement with beau Ranbir Kapoor have been doing the rounds. Mention these reports, and she says, “I can’t answer why (the rumours surfaced), and where they came from. But the correct statement is: I am not engaged. There are no plans of marriage right now. Am I happy with my life? Yes. Am I happy working? Yes. Am I happy with the people in my life? Very much. And that’s where I stand today.”
